When it comes to the effects of DMT, many people are curious about whether or not the substance can be produced in the body. It’s a popular idea, partly because of the many psychedelic experiences that have been reported by people taking dmt.
How effective are DMTs for MS?
In the 90’s, a pioneering medical doctor called Rick Strassman was doing research into this, injecting high doses of DMT into patients to see what their experiences would be like. He noticed that half of the people he was experimenting with would experience some very bizarre and out-of-body experiences.
Does the human body produce dmt? This led him to believe that the DMT might be produced in the pineal gland. Several experiments with rats, however, had shown that the pineal gland was actually not capable of producing DMT in enough concentrations to cause psychedelic effects.
But this wasn’t the end of it, because in 2019 Jimo Borjigin and his team performed an incredible set of experiments on rats where they were able to remove their pineal glands and still find that they were able to produce DMT. This was an important finding because it showed that the pineal gland wasn’t the only place in the brain where DMT could be produced.
While there was some controversy around the study, it wasn’t the end of the story. This is a fascinating area of research that continues to be explored. Hopefully, we will continue to learn more about the role DMT plays in our brains and what it means for our spiritual and spiritually-driven lives.
